Zachary Redler is an active composer, pianist, arranger, copyist, musicologist and musical director in and out of New York City. Last summer Zachary wrote the music for the critically acclaimed musical Perez Hilton Saves the Universe, which won Best Musical Fringe Festival 2008 and Best Musical in the Talkin' Broadway 2008 Summer Theatre Festival Citations. Plans are underway for Perez to play regionally in the 2009-10 season. Currently, Zachary is working on two new shows at Tisch's Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program titled May Day and Memory Is The Mother Of All Wisdom. To aid him in his studies ASCAP awarded Zachary the Max Dreyfus scholarship. Zachary's work has also been heard in Cabarets around the world including: Joe's Pub, the Laurie Beechman Theater, The York Theater, Barrington Stage Company, Sydney Australia.
Zachary's research and study of Auschwitz victim Marcel Tyberg's life and music began has, so far, culminated in two world premiers and three distinguished grants: NYU's Collaborative Arts Grant, the Hanna Van Vollenhollen Vories Memorial Award and support from the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies.
As a performer, he gave New York University's Percussion Department's inaugural recital featuring the works of composer Bruce Hamilton. For his achievement in performance Zachary has been awarded the Percussive Arts Society's PASIC Scholarship, the Jewish Arts Award and the First Lady's Arts Award.
In addition to his solo work, Zachary has also played in pit orchestras for amateur, off and on-Broadway shows (Xanadu, Captain Louie, Marriage Of Bette And Boo, Into The Woods among others). As a conductor, Zachary spent the summer of 2007 working in clinics with professional ensembles in Columbia, South Carolina and Tucuman, Argentina. Assistant conductor credits include: Sondheim's A Little Night Music and Jerome Moross's The Golden Apple at New York University.
